I recently picked up some things at Goodwill that I am beyond excited about, including a pair of Nike Air Force 1’s for $6! How incredible is that? On top of that, I snagged a very Clueless-esque skort, and a pair of overall shorts. Also featured in the first picture are a pair of cat-eye sunglasses that my boyfriend bought me at a little shop in St. Louis.
I made myself a healthy little pre-work meal and thought it was cute enough — and yummy enough — to share. I toasted up some whole wheat bread, spread peanut butter on one slice and added blueberries (shown on left), then put blackberry jam and fresh blackberries on the other slice (shown on right). It turned out to be a really summery-looking meal so I snapped some shotty iPhone photos featuring a fancy paper plate.
Yes, I used lyrics to a song from Grease as the title of this post. But it fits! Summer is coming to a close (boo!) but I’ve been keeping busy these last few weeks in an effort to savor my time before classes start. Some things I’ve been doing recently include reading — Siddhartha by Herman Hesse is the current favorite — shoe shopping, and using up disposable camera after disposable camera (an expensive way to document your summer I found out — oops!), as well as walking around Chicago and boating in Wisconsin. Here’s a look!
Featured in the photos: Siddhartha by Herman Hess, New Look Flatforms from Asos.com, Quartz pendant necklace from a local shop in Wisconsin, Tea lights from Walmart, Various photos from camping and other escapades with my boyf.
And just because I think it’s adorable, here’s an outtake featuring Richie the Kitten:
I’m sure you’ve already been bashed over the head with hype over the all-white trend for Summer ’14 — I have been, too — but really, how can you not be obsessed? An all-white ensemble just screams fresh and breezy, a perfect combo to combat summer heat.
If you’re a bit hesitant about going for the all-out, in-your-face, white-out look, you can adjust the amount of white to your comfort level.
I was sitting at home with an itch to spend money and I thought to myself, “I’m gonna see what’s on sale at ASOS.” But the more practical part of my brain reminded me of all the spending I’ve been doing lately so, instead of spending a bunch of money on one or two amazing items plus shipping, I spent $13 on five amazing items at Goodwill! And yes, it’s still impulsive spending, but I like to call it “responsibly impulsive”. (It counts, okay?)
Anyway, here’s a list of what I got:
A high-waisted, A-line, houndstooth miniskirt. This skirt (pictured above) is beyond adorable. Paired with a white crop top or a cool blank tank, it’s perfect for summer hangs in the city.
Black, 4″ platform ankle booties. I am still in shock over finding these at Goodwill. These boots (also pictured above) make any outfit incredible. I’m currently wearing them with a black pleated school-girl-style skirt and a white cropped t-shirt.
A black, pleated school-girl-style skirt. Yes, yes, the skirt I am wearing now with the black ankle booties was also picked up at goodwill today. It’s actually a children’s XL skirt, but I cinched the adjustable waist until it fit my waist perfectly and now it’s an absolute dream. It definitely reminds me of the American Apparel tennis skirts I’ve been seeing all over recently.
A blue, ceramic box in the shape of a triangle. I don’t really have a lot to say about this but it was a cool find!
All in all it was a surprisingly successful trip to Goodwill and I’m beyond happy with what I picked up. Now, one last thing before I send you on your way (if you’ve been kind enough to read this far) is that I do have photos for a lot more interesting content! I swear! The only problem is that, at the moment, I have no way of getting those photos onto my laptop. So, right now I’m waiting on a memory card reader to arrive in the mail and those awesome posts will finally make it out of my drafts and onto my blog.
Just wanted to post a quick outfit of the day before I’m off running errands!
Sweater – Forever 21
Dress – Walmart
Boots – Drmartens.com
Socks – HUF from Swedlife
Perhaps I should stop labeling these posts “weekly”…
Anyway, before you continue on to the beautiful succession of interesting images I have provided for you below, I have a quick little announcement: I’m opening an Etsy store! Items I will be selling include handmade body-chains, necklaces, and chain headpieces, up-cycled clothing, and homemade body scrubs with customer-unique painted lids (these may not be available as soon as the store opens, but they will be on sale not too long after). It’s a bit of an eclectic array of goodies, all made with care and good vibes. The store is not live yet, but you’ll be the first to know when it is!
Okay, okay. Go on. Scroll down. Be inspired.
And since you waited three weeks for me to update my blog again, I will leave you with this gif(t):
This set is one that I freaking adore. This outfit combines a lot of the trends I’ve been seeing (and admiring) lately — the white platform heel, the cropped jersey tank, the plaid skirt. It all screams Clueless. And, really, who doesn’t want to be Cher?
Something else that I’ve been loving for Spring is a pink lipstick like the one shown above. I’ve been wearing nearly every day the L’Oreal Paris Privee Collection by Julianne lipstick in the shade 620 (Julianne’s Nude). I talked about this lipstick in a previous post and, yes, I’m still in love with it. I just find that a nice pink shade on your lips is so fresh and pretty and reminiscent of all the flowers that are now blooming. Another thing I’ve been doing lately, makeup wise, is a midnight blue eye-shadow as an eyeliner. This really has nothing to do with Spring — I’ve just been wanting to talk about it and didn’t want to make a three-sentence post about my midnight blue eye-shadow. But now that we’re here, I will say that a soft, midnight blue shadow is such a nice change from my typical hard black line. I just apply the eye-shadow with an angled brush along my top lash-line and voila! I’ve got a really pretty, soft eye look that’s perfect for those of you who are looking to break free from boring black, if only for one day. And if a dark blue isn’t for you, a deep purple or even a dark green could work just the same.
That’s all I’ve got for my latest Spring obsessions, but keep a look out for a simple outfit of the day post and, as always, feel free to comment with anything you’ve been obsessed with lately or any fun makeup looks you’ve been loving. I’d love to try them out!
