I recently picked up some things at Goodwill that I am beyond excited about, including a pair of Nike Air Force 1’s for $6! How incredible is that? On top of that, I snagged a very Clueless-esque skort, and a pair of overall shorts. Also featured in the first picture are a pair of cat-eye sunglasses that my boyfriend bought me at a little shop in St. Louis.
I made myself a healthy little pre-work meal and thought it was cute enough — and yummy enough — to share. I toasted up some whole wheat bread, spread peanut butter on one slice and added blueberries (shown on left), then put blackberry jam and fresh blackberries on the other slice (shown on right). It turned out to be a really summery-looking meal so I snapped some shotty iPhone photos featuring a fancy paper plate.
Yes, I used lyrics to a song from Grease as the title of this post. But it fits! Summer is coming to a close (boo!) but I’ve been keeping busy these last few weeks in an effort to savor my time before classes start. Some things I’ve been doing recently include reading — Siddhartha by Herman Hesse is the current favorite — shoe shopping, and using up disposable camera after disposable camera (an expensive way to document your summer I found out — oops!), as well as walking around Chicago and boating in Wisconsin. Here’s a look!
Featured in the photos: Siddhartha by Herman Hess, New Look Flatforms from Asos.com, Quartz pendant necklace from a local shop in Wisconsin, Tea lights from Walmart, Various photos from camping and other escapades with my boyf.
And just because I think it’s adorable, here’s an outtake featuring Richie the Kitten:
I’m sure you’ve already been bashed over the head with hype over the all-white trend for Summer ’14 — I have been, too — but really, how can you not be obsessed? An all-white ensemble just screams fresh and breezy, a perfect combo to combat summer heat.
If you’re a bit hesitant about going for the all-out, in-your-face, white-out look, you can adjust the amount of white to your comfort level.
I was sitting at home with an itch to spend money and I thought to myself, “I’m gonna see what’s on sale at ASOS.” But the more practical part of my brain reminded me of all the spending I’ve been doing lately so, instead of spending a bunch of money on one or two amazing items plus shipping, I spent $13 on five amazing items at Goodwill! And yes, it’s still impulsive spending, but I like to call it “responsibly impulsive”. (It counts, okay?)
Anyway, here’s a list of what I got:
A high-waisted, A-line, houndstooth miniskirt. This skirt (pictured above) is beyond adorable. Paired with a white crop top or a cool blank tank, it’s perfect for summer hangs in the city.
Black, 4″ platform ankle booties. I am still in shock over finding these at Goodwill. These boots (also pictured above) make any outfit incredible. I’m currently wearing them with a black pleated school-girl-style skirt and a white cropped t-shirt.
A black, pleated school-girl-style skirt. Yes, yes, the skirt I am wearing now with the black ankle booties was also picked up at goodwill today. It’s actually a children’s XL skirt, but I cinched the adjustable waist until it fit my waist perfectly and now it’s an absolute dream. It definitely reminds me of the American Apparel tennis skirts I’ve been seeing all over recently.
A blue, ceramic box in the shape of a triangle. I don’t really have a lot to say about this but it was a cool find!
All in all it was a surprisingly successful trip to Goodwill and I’m beyond happy with what I picked up. Now, one last thing before I send you on your way (if you’ve been kind enough to read this far) is that I do have photos for a lot more interesting content! I swear! The only problem is that, at the moment, I have no way of getting those photos onto my laptop. So, right now I’m waiting on a memory card reader to arrive in the mail and those awesome posts will finally make it out of my drafts and onto my blog.
Just wanted to post a quick outfit of the day before I’m off running errands!
Sweater – Forever 21
Dress – Walmart
Boots – Drmartens.com
Socks – HUF from Swedlife
Perhaps I should stop labeling these posts “weekly”…
Anyway, before you continue on to the beautiful succession of interesting images I have provided for you below, I have a quick little announcement: I’m opening an Etsy store! Items I will be selling include handmade body-chains, necklaces, and chain headpieces, up-cycled clothing, and homemade body scrubs with customer-unique painted lids (these may not be available as soon as the store opens, but they will be on sale not too long after). It’s a bit of an eclectic array of goodies, all made with care and good vibes. The store is not live yet, but you’ll be the first to know when it is!
Okay, okay. Go on. Scroll down. Be inspired.
And since you waited three weeks for me to update my blog again, I will leave you with this gif(t):
I know it’s a little early for an April Favorites post, but I’ve gotten my hands on some amazing products this month that I just had to share.
The first is, of course, my amazing Dr. Martens. These boots are the 1460 women’s style and I have worn the absolute crap out of them in the past two weeks. They were a bit stiff and uncomfortable at first, but quickly softened up and are now my most comfortable boots. I wear them with pretty much anything, from girly dresses to destroyed skinny jeans, and they add a really cool edge to all my outfits. You can definitely expect an OOTD post featuring these babies soon!
Now for the small things!
First, let’s talk about my new sunglasses. I bought these last week on an outing to the Delmar Loop in St. Louis despite the fact that I already have a fairly large (okay, it’s kind of ridiculous) collection of sunglasses. But you can never have enough pairs of sunglasses, right? And these sunnies are huge and so fabulous and really make me feel like I am the coolest girl in the world. How could I resist?
There is only one thing that I love more than sunglasses: lip products. There are two lip products that I have been really loving (and by really loving I mean wearing every single day for the past three weeks), and those are my Vaseline Lip Therapy with cocoa butter and my lipstick from the L’Oreal Paris Privee Collection by Julianne in the shade 620 (Julianne’s Nude). Okay, first of all, the Vaseline Lip Therapy is the cutest little thing. It’s so tiny, which makes it perfect for just throwing in your purse and running out of the house. And it works! It’s incredibly moisturizing and leaves my lips soft for hours after putting it on. As for the lipstick, not only is it the most beautiful, shimmery light pink, but it is like butter when you apply it. The color is quite sheer, but the color is build-able so you can achieve a bit of a bolder pink if you’d like.
Another makeup product I’ve been using daily is my Neutrogena Healthy Skin Primer. I absolutely love this primer because it makes my makeup last so much longer than it would without primer. Plus, it has SPF 15 to protect my fair skin from the sun, something I always look for in makeup products.
The last product for my April Favorites is one that I use less often than others, but it’s one that I still absolutely love — my Maybelline Master Glaze blush stick in the shade 30. Its a lovely coral color that I find is always nice for warmer weather, especially as my skin gets a little color from being outside more often. What I really love about this blush stick is its weird texture. I know that’s off-putting, but it’s kind of cool. It goes on almost like a cream blush, but as you blend it, it turns powdery. Very strange, but really pretty.
That’s it for my April favorites, but keep an eye out for an OOTD post featuring my Docs and sunnies! (And let’s face it — I’ll probably be wearing my L’Oreal lipstick as well he he)
